“It’s powerful when a group of Black men come together, set goals and accomplish them.”
-Shawn H. Wilson
On January 15, 2018, a group of black men spanning multiple generations, professions, and socioeconomic backgrounds came together at the 4th Annual Men of Courage Forum in L.A. to celebrate the completion of a successful three-year strategy to advance the narrative and increase the economic, and social mobility of black men in America.
In addition, Ford announced plans to sponsor grassroots activations of Men of Courage Pop-Up centers across nine cities to complement the 2019 Ford sponsored, Men of Courage exhibit with the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service.
With that major announcement, a call to action was set and the room was tasked to brainstorm to create the blueprint for those Men of Courage Pop-Ups as a hub of creativity, engagement, and resources for African American men in their communities.

One month later, on February 17th, we put their feedback to action and brought that vision to life with the launch of the very first Men of Courage Pop-Up event at the Ford Resource and Engagement Center (FREC) on the Eastside of Detroit.
